Peter Bloom: “I create work to lift us both into a timeless sense of wonder. To open a door.”

I am trying to translate a feeling of wonder, beauty and expansion — echoes of an eternal realm.

WHY I CREATE WORLDS

At the height of my success in music, I walked away from a path that had brought me recognition, status and creative influence. Not because it had failed me, but because an inner call had become too loud to ignore — loud enough to drown out everything else.

I needed to give full focus to the obsession that had been shaping me for years: metaphysics, consciousness and the workings of the mind.

After leaving the band, I travelled across continents and began painting — not as a career move, but as one expression of a much larger quest that had been pressing from within.

I began dissecting the invisible patterns that shape us: the subconscious programs that can become a straitjacket, quietly directing our lives from beneath the surface.

The worlds I create come from that ongoing unfolding toward greater freedom. Animals, mist-covered industrial cityscapes, underwater worlds, shadow and light appear as archetypal images of the collective human psyche.

Beneath all of this, I am trying to translate a feeling: that reality is larger than we were taught to believe. A feeling of wonder, beauty, expansion, innocence and echoes of something eternal.

I do not make work to decorate reality.
I make work to open it wider.
